Chapter 7, Optimizing Social Media: Connect with Current Events

Chapter Recap
  • Using social media in the classroom extends learning beyond the four walls and school network and gives a broad and authentic audience. For example, instead of just reading about scientists, students can engage with real scientists or connect with authors via social media.
  • Before using social media in the classroom consider sending a permission letter home to families, review online safety tips, and create a shared hashtag.

Make sure to follow INFOhio using: Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Share what INFOhio digital tools are being used in the classroom and add the hashtag #INFOhioWorks to posts.

As you use INFOhio resources in the classroom, we encourage you to fill out this survey for a chance to be featured in biannual newsletters. We may contact you to share your ideas for using resources in the classroom.

Reflecting on Your Learning

Consider the following questions:

  1. Do you use social media in or on behalf of your classroom? If so, what do you share? What do you promote about student learning?
  2. The author provides many concrete examples of how to use X (formerly known as Twitter) or other social media platforms in your classroom. If you don’t already, how could you incorporate social media?
