Getting to Know CultureGrams: Kids, States, Provinces, and World Editions

What is CultureGrams?

CultureGrams: Kids, States, Provinces, and World editions are reference resources offering grades 3-12 students reliable cultural, geographic, and economic information on 185 countries. Watch the Product Education video to learn more about all four editions of CultureGrams. 

Open CultureGrams: Kids, States, Provinces, and World Editions

You can open CultureGrams editions using a computer, mobile phone, tablet, or other device with internet access. Find CultureGrams editions on a combination of the Grades K-5, Grades 6-8, and Grades 9-12 pages. Use the directions and picture below to learn more about the location of each edition of CultureGrams. 

Go to CultureGrams: Kids and States editions using the steps listed below.

  1. Go to www.infohio.org.
  2. Click the Grades K-5 button.
  3. Click the blue "i" in CultureGrams: Kids or States edition resource box or tab. 
  4. Read additional information about the resource. 
  5. Click the green Open button to access the resource. 

Go to CultureGrams: States, Provinces, and World editions using the steps below. 

  1. Go to www.infohio.org.
  2. Click the Grades 6-8 or Grades 9-12 button.
  3. Click the blue "i" in CultureGrams: States, Provinces, or World edition resource box or tab. 
  4. Read additional information about the resource.
  5. Click the green Open button to go to the resource.

Share Links to Licensed Resources

INFOhio's licensed digital content is password-protected to ensure it is only accessible to Ohio educators, families, and students. Sharing the correct link for the content and the resource is important to ensure seamless access. Use the Instructional Supports

Instructional supports allow educators to save, share, download, and print content from CultureGrams. Articles include a text-to-speech option and the ability to translate the text. 

Save Content 

Save content from CultureGrams to Google Drive. Click Save to Google Drive. Select your Google account and provide your password. Once CultureGrams has linked your Google account, you can use the Save to Drive button as illustrated below.

Share Content 

Share content from CultureGrams with students using Google Classroom. Please note, that educators need to permit CultureGrams to link to your Google account. Click Add to Google Classroom as illustrated below.

Select the class and choose an action from the pop-up window.

Download and Print Content 

Use CultureGrams to find collections of maps, flags, infographics, music, videos, and photos. Many of these files can be downloaded or printed for offline access. 

  • Maps: Click the Outline Map or Detail Map for continents, countries, states, and provinces. Use the download icon to download maps. Use the print icon to print maps as a PDF file. Use detail and outline maps in lessons and assignments. 
  • Flags: Right-click on the flag. Select Save Image As to download flags from CultureGrams Kids, States, Provinces, and World editions. Click Print PDF to print an outline of a flag. Print flag outlines for students to color and decorate. 
  • Infographics: Right-click on the infographic. Select Save Image As to download infographics from CultureGrams Kids and World editions. Click Print PDF to print infographics. Use colorful infographics to break down basic information about people and countries. 
  • Photos: Click Download Image to download photos from the photo gallery. Upload images to lessons and assignments. 
  • Videos: Click Download Video to download videos to your computer. Use videos in assignments and lessons. Upload videos to an LMS or Google Classroom. 

Translate Content 

Find Translate in the top right corner. Click the down arrow and select a language. CultureGrams will translate the article from English to the language you select as illustrated below.

Enable Text-to-Speech 

Find the Listen button in the top right corner as illustrated below. Click Listen to hear an audio version of the article. Click the Download icon for an MP3 file of the audio for the article.

Reflecting On Your Learning

Answer the following questions in the Open Space group titled, CultureGrams: Kids, States, Provinces, and World Editions. Find the discussion post titled Features of CultureGrams editions. Reply to the thread and respond to the other participants' answers. 

  1. Think about the students you work with, name at least two ways CultureGrams: Kids, States, Provinces or World edition can help you supplement the content in your classroom. Name at least two features that will most appeal to your students based on what you learned from your quick glimpse at the resource. 
  2. What is one question you have about the resource that you hope will be answered during the training? 
  3. Think of a time when you used a website or online tool in your inststurction. What did you like about using the website or tool? How was it different from using other resources in your teaching?
